I'm Back!

Yes, I'm back!

2013 was quite the wild ride, and I'm very thankful to be over and done with it.  I'm going to look back and call it one of the greatest "learning year's" of my life, but the learning wasn't easy.  It was painful, brutal, messy, mucky, gross, nasty, and bleh!

I'm coming back, not as the old me, but as an entirely different person.  Crazy, but true.

Thank you to everyone who has thought about me and/or prayed for me this past year!  It really means a lot to me.

2014 is looking up already!  Two weeks ago things were going so well that I thought, "Hey, I should reopen my business."  Actually, I've been thinking about it for months and months, pretty much ever since I closed it.  But I knew that I and my family weren't ready until now.

And Now, is the time!

My Etsy store is back open and ready to sell, and I'm heading into a brand new soap studio, and I couldn't be more thrilled!

Again, thank you, thank you!  And I hope to talk to some of you and become more regular about blogging here in the coming days and weeks.

Mustache Soap for the Prostate Cancer Foundation

About 5 years ago my family got some terrible news.  My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Thankfully due to early detection and proper treatment, he has been cancer free for 4 years.

According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation:

Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America, affecting 1 in 6 men.

In 2013, more than 238,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 30,000 men will die from the disease. One new case occurs every 2.2 minutes and a man dies from prostate cancer every 17.5 minutes.

It is estimated that there are more than 2 million American men currently living with prostate cancer.

I don't know about you, but I know more than 6 men.  The good news, this disease is extremely treatable once discovered - so the main issue is getting our guys to get checked!

Hence Movember and Zero and a bunch of other awareness raising organizations out there.

So I thought I'd do my part and introduce a cute, but socially conscientious, Mustache Soap!

This super cute aqua blue mustache soap will not only keep the man in your life clean and fresh, but for every bar of soap that's sold I'll donate $1.50 to the Prostate Cancer Foundation!

The soap is scented with Bay Rum fragrance oil - which in my opinion has an awesome "clean smelling boy" fragrance.  Made with vegetable glycerin soap, it'll keep skin moist and fresh rather than dry or itchy.

And the best part?  You'll get to tell him that part of the proceeds from the soap went to prostate cancer research.

I'm Back!

Well folks, it's been a nice long break from soaping, but I'm officially back!  Actually, I've been back for a few weeks, but as in all things, it takes me a while to get back into my groove.

Some things are a bit different this time around, at least for me anyway.  The first change, is a slight, but important, switch in priorities.  In the fall I was extremely focused on my soap making.  Which I think was important in one sense because I was learning, growing, and trying to figure things out and learn as much as I could.  I'm still learning, I think I'll always be learning, but now I'm also knocking soap making down a notch in the scheme of things and trying to find a better balance to my life.

Last week I had a bit of an emotional freak out.  Why?  Because I felt like I was failing my kids with their homeschooling.  I felt like I was falling farther and farther "behind" (whatever that means) and doing them a disservice.

Since that horrible day, I've calmed down, quite a bit.  And I've realized that my kids are turning out wonderfully, that I'm not totally failing them, but that I also need to set them higher on my priority list and set soap making lower.

So this past week, I've been a homeschooling genius.  I've done school, I've even done science experiments!  And when it's time to sit down with my kids and focus, I've done just that.  It feels great!  They love it, but they've always loved it.  But now, I'm starting to enjoy it too.

And surprise of all surprises, setting things into balance has caused this side effect that I hadn't anticipated... I'm actually getting soaping done too!  For the first time since November, I'm actually making new products.  And while I'm making new stuff, I don't feel guilty at all.  Before, I'd start soaping and I'd instantly get this flash in my brain that told me I was neglecting my duties to my kids and my family.  But now, I can head into my soap studio guilt free!

It's a beautiful thing.

So all this to say, you can expect pictures of new stuff very soon!  Guilt free new stuff!  Hurray!
